James G. Kollegger is one of the pioneers of the information industry: founder of EIC/Intelligence, Inc., one of the earliest electronic database publishing companies; venture capitalist and CEO of Genesys Partners, Inc.; an industry leader who has worked with groups such as the Information Industry Association, who named him their first "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 1987.
James G. Kollegger is one of the pioneers of the electronic information industry: founder of one of the earliest database publishing companies, technology venture capitalist, and industry leader who helped build the Information Industry Assn.(now SIIA), which named him their first "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 1987.
Genesys Partners, Inc. is an investment banking, venture capital and development company that specializes in the digital information technology industry. Genesys acts like a merchant bank and accelerator for its portfolio companies: It helps jump-start young companies to make the crucial transition from angel-funded to venture-backed operations. Genesys follows a “jewel in the rough” hands-on strategy to help build its portfolio companies.
Founded in 1989, Genesys has helped its ventures raised more than $300M and was financial and strategic advisor to Wave Systems (NASDAQ: WAVX), Folio Corp., the Hollywood Stock Exchange (HSX); Solbright Digital Solutions; Ingram Entertainment, e-workflow provider Knovel, analytics venture Enkata, and legal videobank pioneer Courtroom Connect.
He was founder and CEO of EIC/Intelligence, Inc., one of the industry's first database companies, which he sold to Reed-Elsevier Ltd. in 1988. EIC tracked new technologies from laboratory to marketplace for large corporate, government and academic clients. Databases included artificial intelligence, biotechnology, CAD/CAM, environment, energy, robotics, and telecommunications.
Mr. Kollegger was instrumental in the growth of SIIA - the Software and Information Industry Assn., a trade group of 600+ members including Bloomberg, Dow Jones, Google, IBM, Reed Elsevier, and Salesforce.com. He served on the IIA board of directors for six years and was founding chairman of the Public Policy Council. IIA merged with the Software Publishers Assn. to create SIIA, one of the most powerful information trade groups in the U.S. He is co-founder of the annual Information Industry Summit, now in its 10th year, and anchors the popular CEO Outlook keynote panels featuring industry luminaries such as Ken Auletta, Esther Dyson, Tom Glocer, Ted Leonsis, and Martin Sorrell.
He served in the U.S. Army Strategic Communications Command during the Vietnam era as Operations Officer, Northwest Major Relay Station, and as Command Information Officer for this major global command. (Capt., top-secret clearance, awarded Army Commendation medal).
Mr. Kollegger was a founder of the Environmental Planning Lobby in New York State; served on the American Management Assn's Information Technology Council, a group of CIO’s from Fortune 500 corporations, helped select the head of the U.S. National Archives in the era of President Carter, and served on the Advisory Council of the U.S. Government Printing Office in the era of President Reagan. He is a graduate of Boston University, the U.S. Army Signal School, and is a member of the Union League Club of New York.
